Song & Story: Social Emotional Musical Expression (c)
(Keyboard at home required)— a small electronic keyboard is perfect to start! Music is a language, so attempting to learn without the ability to spontaneously play can hinder bursts of growth and natural curiosity.
Learn piano without note reading first…but how?
Is your child piano curious, but overwhelmed with what to do with it? Do they already take lessons, but are discouraged by reading notes? The Song & Story: S.E. Musical Expression Method(c) brings the enjoyment of self-expression to music lessons, through the familiar elements of story. This method builds motivated musical learners that will play immediately, and it will enhance note reading later on.
Origin Story
As a child, I enjoyed exploring the keyboard with my musical ear, but understood the “real” lesson was in classical repertoire. While I enjoyed this path of learning beautiful music ~ my natural curiosity, and exploration of sound, was left waiting in the wings, not encouraged on the bench. My own creative expression always felt limited.
Fast forward.
After decades of studying piano “traditionally” I broke free. I learned to simply use the piano how it felt natural, and began composing my own music. When I opened my piano studio, I crafted a teaching style decidedly different: one based in emotional awareness and exploration of musical tools and palettes. The Song & Story: S.E. Music Method(c) invites students to center their playing through their emotions - in a musically structured way - leading to personal musical ideas. Expressing through both their social brain and creative brain, young learners practice musical expression just like they would learn any language - from a place of joy, curiousity, and trial and error.
How does it work?
The Song & Story: S.E. Musical Expression Method(c) guides the student through the self-expression process by helping them refine what they want to communicate while using the piano as a voice. Each student will receive the “Song & Story Workbook”(c) which follows my teaching method.
